Emmanuel Vuillaume will conduct the new production of Tosca on New Year’s Eve, and most of the run.

Here’s the Met’s announcement:

Casting Update: Emmanuel Villaume will conduct the Met’s new production of Tosca on December 31, 2017, and January 3, 6, 9, 12, 23, and 27, 2018, replacing James Levine.

Maestro Villaume, who recently conducted Massenet’s Thaïs at the Met, is Music Director of the Dallas Opera and Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Prague Philharmonia. He made his Met debut in 2004 conducting Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and his subsequent performances with the company have included Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila, Bizet’s Carmen, Massenet’s Manon and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette.

Sir David McVicar’s new staging of Tosca opens on December 31, with Sonya Yoncheva as Tosca, Vittorio Grigolo as Cavaradossi, and Bryn Terfel as Scarpia. The January 27 matinee will be transmitted live as part of the Met’s Live in HD series, which reaches more than 2,000 movie theaters in 73 countries around the world.

Later performances on April 21, 26 and 30, and May 4, 8 and 12, 2018, will star Anna Netrebko in the title role opposite Marcelo Álvarez as Cavaradossi and Michael Volle and Željko Lučić sharing the role of Scarpia. The April and May performances will be conducted by Bertrand de Billy.

Gareth Morrell will conduct the performance on January 18, 2018. The conductor for the January 15 performance will be announced at a later date

Sir Bryn Terfel has had to withdraw from the Met's new production of Puccini's Tosca as he takes enforced rest due to vocal fatigue.
"I am extremely disappointed to have to cancel these performances," said Sir Bryn. "I was particularly happy to be returning to the Metropolitan Opera with this exciting new staging, and it is a terrible shame not to be a part of it."

The Metropolitan Opera could retitle its troubled new production of Puccini’s “Tosca,” calling it “And Then There Were None.”
Bass-baritone Bryn Terfel has withdrawn from the role of Scarpia due to vocal fatigue, the Met said Tuesday. The staging, which opens on New Year’s Eve, previously lost its original soprano, tenor and conductor, plus its first replacement conductor.
Terfel has not sung at the Met since 2012. He will be replaced by Zeljko Lucic.

David McVicar directs the production, which takes over from a maligned 2009 staging by Luc Bondy that had trouble attracting spectators and was retired after just 59 performances over five seasons.
The Jan. 27 matinee will be televised to movie theaters worldwide.
Tenor Jonas Kaufmann, scheduled to sing Cavaradossi, withdrew in March, deciding he did not want to leave his home in Europe and spend the holiday season rehearsing in New York. He was replaced by Vittorio Grigolo.

So sorry to hear Bryn has had to withdraw from Tosca, it's a punishing time of year for throats and voices for us ordinary folk, let alone a super bass baritone jetsetting all over the world. Take your time to recover Bryn and enjoy some precious family time. Your fans will still be there!! Happy Christmas to you and Terfeliaids everywhere! Xx

This sounds serious.
Get well soon!

The Welsh baritone has also withdrawn from concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in February.
