Hi Everyone

I am just recovering from the most wonderful weekend in Dresden. The concert in front of the Frauenkirche on Sunday evening (24.6.2007) was just incredible. The weather forcast for the evening was not good and emergency plans had been made to transfer the concert to the Kreuzkirche, if necessary. Thankfully every thing went according to plan and the concert was held in the square. It turned out to be the most perfect evening, warm with a glorious sunset. The back drop that the Frauenkirche provided was just spectacular and there was tremendous excitement in the air. It was the first concert ever to be held in the square. Bryn was on top form. He came out to sing his first aria wearing a baseball cap with Dresden on the front, it looked a little different for the start of the concert and we all wondered what he was up to. The first aria was from Figaro “ Non piu andrai and as Bryn sang about the hat he threw the baseball cap into the audience. There was certainly a scramble to claim it. The high light of the evening was Die Frist ist um from Wagner’s Hollander. I have never heard Bryn sing it better. He really was a lost soul searching. Bryn’s encore was Suo Gan which was just beautiful and a little girl about 6 sat next to Doreen said to her father He has gone to sleep, so the lullaby evidently had the right effect. It brought a smile to the faces of the people around us and once again Bryn Terfel had cast his spell.

Hello everybody,

here is a little excerpt from a newspaper article written about the Dresden Open Air Event, I hope you will enjoy it despite my amateurish translation:

Goose-pimples in front of house of god

For the first time there has been an opera gala in front of the Frauenkirche in Dresden.
The two opera singers Barbara Krieger and Bryn Terfel made it an unforgettable evening.

For a moment time seemed to stand still.
When late that Sunday evening the baritone Bryn Terfel finished off with the dreamy Welsh song „Suo Gan“ bowing his head, there was silence all over the square in front of the Frauenkirche for a few seconds. Only when the star looked up and whispered „Danke schön“ (Thank you very much) in the microphone, the audience showed their emotions and cheered him enthusiastically. His encore was one of those fascinating moments the evening offered a number of. Whether singing in the funny mood of Falstaff or in the tormenting one of the Flying Dutchman, - the man from Wales made a little music theatre out of each aria:
his gestures and facial movements were precise and he showed an exemplary comprehensibility of words.

The author of the article does not exaggerate!! It was wonderful!

Best wishes to all,
